Carlos Sainz penalized after Miami GP collision

Sainz demoted to fifth place

Sainz was handed a five-second time penalty and one penalty point on his license after causing a collision with Oscar Piastri. The penalty dropped Sainz from fourth to fifth place in the race.

The incident occurred on lap 11 of the race when Sainz attempted to overtake Piastri on the inside. Sainz made contact with Piastri's car, sending both drivers into a spin. Piastri was able to continue the race, but Sainz was forced to pit for repairs.

The stewards deemed Sainz to be at fault for the collision and issued him with the penalty. The penalty is a blow to Sainz's hopes of finishing in the top three in the championship. He is now 24 points behind his teammate, Charles Leclerc, in the standings.
